For a
more
successful pharmacy technician career, it’s a known fact that you
should enroll yourself in a good training program offered by a
reputable pharmacy technician school. Although it is not a requirement,
most employers prefer technicians who have undergone some formal
training. However, your training can only take you so far, with
practical on-the-job skills also being very important in the wider
scheme of things. Admittedly though, in today’s very challenging and
rapidly advancing field of healthcare, you will do well to be certified
as a pharmacy technician in order to ensure your career advancement.
The
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board PTCB is one of the most highly
regarded organizations in the United States that awards certification
and is recognized nationally. A PTCB pharmacy technician is more
frequently guaranteed of a quicker hiring by an employer and even a
higher-than-average pay packet. The Pharmacy Technician Certification
Board PTCB is the pioneer and industry leader in certifying pharmacy
technicians, and since its founding in 1995, PTCB have certified over
300,000 pharmacy technicians. The pharmacy technician PTCB exam that
they give is called the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam or PTCE.
The PTCE pharmacy technician who has successfully
passed will be given the designation of CPhT, or Certified
Pharmacy
Technician. Those who failed the exam can take it again and
there is no
limit on the number of times you can take the exam. As long as you can
pay the necessary fees for resitting this there will generally be no
problem. There are however a few requirements for who can take the exam
innitially. You must have at least a high school diploma, or its
equivalent, and you shouldn’t have any felony or drug-related
convictions. You will have a better chance of passing the PTCE if
you’ve completed a good training program from a good pharmacy
technician school or institution.

A PTCB
pharmacy
technician, as stated earlier, will have better chances of getting
hired quickly and being offered a higher salary. Big drugstore chains,
like Walgreens, can offer their higher Walgreen pharmacy technician
salary to a CPhT, compared to a non-certified pharmacy technician in
the same entry-level position.
Companies also hire certified pharmacy
technicians because they’re assured that these PTCB pharmacy
technicians can do their duties and responsibilities with utmost care
and top-notch performance in pharmacy-related work. This is very
important especially in today’s setting, where medical malpractice
lawsuits are happening all the time. Healthcare providers have to hire
certified employees in order to protect themselves from these suits.
Since most patients today expect acceptable outcomes when dealing with
a professional, certain levels of unprofessionalism can at times lead
to medical malpractice lawsuits. Having credentialed personnel on
staff, like a certified PTCB pharmacy technician, for example, will
lessen the possibility of a successful lawsuit because the quality of
work of the staff is more-or-less guaranteed and that can be argued
more successfully in court.
As important as certification is,
all of it starts from a good training program from a reputable pharmacy
technician school. It’s needless to say, but should be stressed
nonetheless, that to successfully pass a pharmacy technician PTCB exam,
you have to be prepared for it. Once you’re a certified PTCB pharmacy
technician, a successful career in healthcare providing is in your
more-than-capable hands!
