Although it is not a requirement, most employers prefer technicians who have undergone some formal training. A PTCB pharmacy technician is more frequently guaranteed of a quicker hiring by an employer and even a higher-than-average pay packet. The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board PTCB is the pioneer and industry leader in certifying pharmacy technicians, and since its founding in 1995, PTCB have certified over 300,000 pharmacy technicians. The pharmacy technician PTCB exam that they give is called the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam or PTCE.  
 
The PTCE pharmacy technician who has successfully passed will be given the designation of CPhT, or Certified Pharmacy Technician. Those who failed the exam can take it again and there is no limit on the number of times you can take the exam. As long as you can pay the necessary fees for resitting this there will generally be no problem. There are however a few requirements for who can take the exam innitially. You must have at least a high school diploma, or its equivalent, and you shouldn’t have any felony or drug-related convictions. A PTCB pharmacy technician, as stated earlier, will have better chances of getting hired quickly and being offered a higher salary. Big drugstore chains, like Walgreens, can offer their higher Walgreen pharmacy technician salary to a CPhT, compared to a non-certified pharmacy technician in the same entry-level position.
 
Companies also hire certified pharmacy technicians because they’re assured that these PTCB pharmacy technicians can do their duties and responsibilities with utmost care and top-notch performance in pharmacy-related work. This is very important especially in today’s setting, where medical malpractice lawsuits are happening all the time.
