Like
in any job, the
first thing you would want to know is the salary. How much is the
salary? Would it be enough to live on? Will it pay the bills? Will you
be able to live comfortably off it? When I was starting as a pharmacy
technician, salary information is almost the first thing I asked. It's
very rare for a jobseeker not to ask about salaries.
Admittedly,
the average starting salary pharmacy technician workers receive is not
always
great. it's almost comparable to any entry-level service job.
According to the American Medical Association, the average starting
salary pharmacy technician earns is $19,270 a year. This starting
salary, and the average salary pharmacy technician workers receive, is
projected to increase in the coming years. Not just increase, but to
rise faster than other jobs. How so?
The licensed
pharmacists' tasks and responsibilities are growing each year. More
pressures are put on them to meet the requirements of their clients.
This, in turn, will also increase the need for more pharmacy
technicians. The average salary pharmacist receive is between $81,036
and $113,730 in annual compensation, including bonuses, commissions,
and profit-sharing income. This salary is also projected to increase
still. The average salary pharmacy technician workers receive will also
see
an increase to go along with that of the pharmacists' income.
Incidentally,
salaries for the medical and healthcare fields are already growing. The
average salary medical assistant earns, for example, $28,547.
Government studies show this, too, is bound to increase as more people
are requiring medical care, medications and prescription drugs in the
coming years.

The
standards for
pharmacy technicians will also increase, with more state board of
pharmacy requiring higher standards, like certification, licensing, or
required training programs. Requiring higher standards will mean higher
salary. A certified pharmacy technician is already earning more than a
non-certified pharmacy tech. Certified pharmacy technician receives
$28,940 annually.
Compare this with the average salary pharmacy
technician usually receives, which currently stands at $27,720
annually. Salaries also increase as one gain more experience under his
belt. A senior pharmacy technician, with 10-19 years experience,
receives
somewhere between $27,594 and $38,406 annually.
Aside from the
salary, pharmacy technicians also receive a number of additional
benefits. These benefits vary depending on the type of industry where
you're working. Most employers offer paid vacations, sick leave, health
insurance, 401(k) plan, and store discounts.
The best time to
be a pharmacy technician is now. Certification is not a requirement to
enter this field. You can be a pharmacy technician with only a high
school diploma in hand. You can have an on-the-job training and when
you finally determine that a pharmacy technician career is the one you
want, you can then enroll in training programs and be a certified
pharmacy technician in order to receive a higher salary.
