What
does the
passage of the Presidential administration’s Healthcare Reform Bill
mean to pharmacy technician careers and other allied health
professions? It can only mean great job security and many opportunities
for pharmacy technicians. And this holds true for other countries, as
well, not only being limited to the United States.
According
to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the pharmacy technician
career outlook is bright for the foreseeable future. A pharmacy
technician job search online will confirm that more and more
companies
are looking to hire the services of these technicians. According to the
same report by the BLS, pharmacy technician employment is expected to
increase much faster than the average and job opportunities are
expected to be good.
What are the factors that cause this?
For
one, the number of middle-aged and elderly people is increasing, not
just in the US but in other countries as well. These are the people who
use more prescription drugs and that will boost the demand for pharmacy
workers. This also means pharmacist careers are on the upswing, too.
Another factor is the rapid advancement in science that leads to new
drugs. Both of these factors will add to the pharmacists’ work, thus
needing the services of additional pharmacy technicians. And with
Healthcare Reform, this will only make pharmacy technician careers even
more desirable for those who want to enter this field.

After
a year of seemingly
endless debates, the United States has finally made into law the
controversial Healthcare Reform Bill. What does this mean? It means 48
million uninsured Americans will now have new, affordable health
insurance options. Another 5.6 million people with pre-existing
conditions will no longer be denied health coverage. These are millions
of people that will now require the services of healthcare
professionals.
This will also spike the number of people asking for
prescription drugs, which means more customers for small-scale and big
pharmacies like Walgreens. Incidentally, Walgreens careers in the field
of pharmacy technicians will even be more lucrative because the company
can offer better wages and benefits because of the increase in
customers.
There is no better time to choose pharmacy
technician careers than now. Enroll yourself in a reputable pharmacy
technician training program, have yourself certified by The Pharmacy
Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the Institute for
the
Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT), and apply in the industry
that you desire.
Pharmacy technician employment will increase
by 31% in the next decade and no matter what the state of the economy
is, you should have little reason to feel unemployable at all. There
will always be companies, individual pharmacists and hospitals needing
the services of pharmacy technicians.
