No
college degree?
With only a high school diploma, you wouldn't think you can get a job
that pays almost $30,000 in annual wage plus benefits. But you can earn
double the minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. With a pharmacy technician
job, salary is a very stable and the job is so rewarding.
Pharmacy
technician job description, if in case you're wondering, reads
"pharmacy technicians help licensed pharmacists prepare prescription
medications, provide customer service, and perform administrative
duties within a pharmacy setting." They are in charge of receiving
prescription requests, counting tablets, and labeling bottles. In some
cases, they are also responsible for doing administrative functions
like stocking shelves, answering phones, and operating cash registers.
Pharmacy technician jobs
or duties may vary depending on where they're
working.
The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 set the federal
minimum wage at $7.25 an hour. Some States have higher minimum wage.
The pharmacy technician pay scale ranges between $9.36 to as high as
$19.31 an hour. The mean hourly pharmacy technician job salary is
$13.92, almost twice the minimum hourly wage.
You can have
a higher pharmacy technician job salary if you have other
qualifications like extensive experience, formal training from any of
the highly regarded pharmacy technician schools offering excellent
training programs and of course, if you're a certified Pharmacy
Technician Certification Board PTCB pharmacy technician.

Hospitals,
community
pharmacies, major drugstore chains, and other employers prefer
certified pharmacy technicians even though you only need a high school
diploma, or its equivalent, to enter the pharmacy technician field.
Other
jobs in the healthcare occupations also receive high salaries. Someone
on a medical
assistant job salary, for example, receives $14.16 mean
hourly wage,
slightly higher than the pharmacy technician job salary. To be a
medical assistant, it also requires only a high school diploma but
employers prefer those that are certified as well. A person with a
pharmacist job, salary is $51.27 mean hourly wage, many times higher
than the minimum wage.
However, to be a pharmacist, you need to
have a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree and you need to pass
several exams, including the North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam
(NAPLEX), which tests pharmacy skills and knowledge. Forty-four States
and the District of Columbia also require that you pass the Multistate
Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE), which tests pharmacy law.
Not
all of us have had the opportunity to finish a college degree for
various reasons. We may not have the means, the opportunity, or the
time to pursue higher education but that doesn't mean we couldn't have
a stable income and a secured job. That is what a pharmacy technician
career offers us. With a pharmacy technician job, salary increases are
just one of the benefits you can receive.
