The following management groups guide our internal scientific team and a cadre of internationally recognized consultants and advisors.

EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT TEAM

James Hamilton, MD, MBA, Chief Executive Officer - James graduated Magna cum Laude from Miami University and holds an MD degree from The Ohio State University, with post-graduate specialty training in Emergency Medicine. He is currently a licensed medical practitioner. Dr. Hamilton also completed an MBA at the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. In 2005 he co-founded NanoValent Pharmaceuticals, a nanoparticle vaccine delivery firm. Dr. Hamilton has worked recently as a biotechnology analyst at Reservoir Ventures where he helped delineate a product strategy for several portfolio biotech and medical device companies, and has consulted for biotechnology venture funds including Calderome Inc., and The Benet Group.

Thomas Schluep, Sc.D., Chief Scientific Officer – Small Molecule Delivery, is an expert in the development of formulations for biologics. Prior to joining Insert, he was responsible for the non-viral gene therapy program at Canji, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Schering-Plough. He successfully led an interdisciplinary team of scientists in their effort to develop synthetic gene delivery vehicles for the systemic treatment of cancer with the p53 tumor suppressor gene. His other research activities included the development of formulations that enhance adenoviral gene delivery after systemic or local regional administration. As a senior member of the bio-analytical group, he was also responsible for assay development, qualification, and GMP testing of adenoviral gene therapy vectors. Prior to Canji, Dr. Schluep was a post-doctoral associate at the department of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his Sc.D. in Process Engineering in 1995 and an MS in Biotechnology in 1989, both from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland.
Jeremy Heidel, Vice President Research & Development and Chief Scientific Officer – Oligonucleotide delivery , earned his bachelor’s degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biology from MIT and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Caltech.  Dr. Heidel performed his doctoral thesis research on targeted, systemic, non-viral delivery of siRNA in the laboratory of Dr. Mark Davis, and has expertise in the areas of: (i) synthesis and characterization of polymeric delivery vehicles and their formulations, (ii) identification of siRNA target sites and the design of potent RNAi molecules, and (iii) the design and execution of in vitro and in vivo experiments to evaluate formulation efficacy. He was the first to show that synthetic siRNA molecules do not elicit immune responses in animals.
