Within each state, you can find that the definition of a pharmacy technician may vary. However, the basic definition entails an individual who works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist within a pharmacy. Within this setting, they are responsible for assisting the pharmacist in accomplishing various tasks behind the counter at the pharmacy. Having said this, the role of a pharmacy technician does not include activities which require the greater judgment of a fully trained and qualified pharmacist. To achieve the most success as a pharmacy technician, it is recommended that you reach out for pharmacy technician certification.
In some states, you are only required to have a high school diploma in order to receive Pharmacy Technician Certification. However, some states require that you have a college education. Within most states, you are required to pass a background check. Every state varies in the applications and procedures; therefore, it is good to get familiar with the requirements within your state.
After passing the ExCPT national exam, you are then granted the title of Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), which shows that you have the ability and skills required for assisting a pharmacist in a safe and accurate manner, whilst preparing and dispensing medications reliably. You now have the choice to register in one to two days in advance and no longer need to wait 6-8 weeks. In addition, you can receive your results right away.
