If you’re an efficient person who enjoys working with others, if you can multitask even in the most fast paced environment, there is a job waiting for your kind of talent. The medical field is quite literally critically short in multiple areas. Medical assistant jobs are rapidly becoming as necessary and as highly sought out as nursing fields in many states of the US.
A medical assistant is someone who works inside the physician or nurse practitioners office, who is responsible for office tasks, but may, to some small degree, also be responsible for medical work of an unskilled nature as well. Medical assistants are require in nearly every physicians office, and in other areas as well.
You may find yourself, on any given day, attending to answering phones, making appointments, scheduling medical testing, setting up billing arrangements, updating charts and billing your clinic’s patients. You may also, in many states find that you will also be doing some of the medical assisting such as preparing the room for new patients and taking vitals like the temperature, blood pressure and pulse. Medical assistant jobs are demanding, you will need to think on your feet at many times, and also be able to do multiple things at one time.
Certified Medical assistant jobs are in great demand these days. It was, at one time, more common that you would take the job and be given on the job training methods in order that you would be able to work with your physician and know his or her methods best, but today, formal schooling in community colleges or Vocational-Technical schools is the more common method of training for medical Assistant jobs.
While you may take on-the-job training, and no real training is required to get a medical assistant job, getting a short term course in Medical assistance is generally going to enhance your career opportunities as well as permit you to test as a certified Medical Assistant.
In most states, formal training is not a necessity for the position, but what you will gain in prestige, you will also gain in compensation towards some further trainings like that for nursing in many cases. Some nursing schools permit you to skip over part of your nursing training if you are a Certified Medical Assistant already. If you have your certification and have actively worked in medical assistant jobs, you may qualify for advanced placement for your nursing school if you should choose to attend one.
There are two different certifying bodies in the United States who will offer you testing as a Registered Medical Assistant or a Certified Medical Assistant. While you are not required to take formal training for medical assistant jobs in most cases, having that certification will give you the edge when it comes to getting the job more confidently.
